Now that the main construction of Te Ara Tuhono Link Pathway is complete, our construction team are focussed on improving what they have created.
On the immediate “To Do” list are:
Improving the pathway that has been compromised by road repairs along the Lower Mahakipawa.
A footbridge where there has been a retaining wall built on the road edge east of Aussie Bay.
Continued improvements to storm-damaged areas. In particular the narrow sections between The Grove and Aussie Bay, and at the top end of Shakespeare Bay.
On the Long-term Improvement List are:
Constructing a clip-on footbridge across the Kaituna River Road Bridge.
Establishing a road-shoulder along the Lower Mahakipawa road causeway, in order to create enough width to get walkers/ cyclists off the actual road edge.
A short-cut across farmland between Tirimoana and The Grove.
Rerouting and improving the steep zig-zag east of Ngakuta Bay.
And then…did we mention we want to extend the Link Pathway beyond Havelock, up the Pelorus Valley, and over the Maungatapu Saddle to Nelson?
