Wedge Point Ridge to Shakespeare Bay

From the road crossing at Wedge Point Ridge, the pathway runs flat for 400 metres, past a small public toilet, until the ridge is crossed. Here a side track leads for 300 metres to the remains of a World War Two Lookout and Signal Station. The Link Pathway turns south, and descends gently through mature beech trees. There are two narrow sections because of storm damage, but in the main the pathway is wide and well graded. Near a lookout site and seats that looks out through the bush to Mabel Island and Kaipupu Point, are a number of fun fairy doors at the base of the large trees in the area.

After a further 300 metres the historic bridle path is again joined. Opposite the Shakespeare Bay Wharf a short side track on the inland side leads up to a lookout site and seat. This is a great site to enjoy any log or cruise ships that may be berthed at the wharf.

Soon the pathway meanders through an impressive grove of tall podocarp trees; a remnant of what once covered the flats at the head of Shakepeare Bay. The pathway then skirts the edge of the beach, which is home to a variety of birdlife, before a boardwalk crosses a small estuary. The path then leads to the edge of the road.
