Link Pathway Arts Trail

Arts Trail

Being an art trail, experience sculptures, murals, creative seats and all sorts of unexpected, and often quirky features along it’s length.

Unexpected organic craft

From the days of the original vision to create the Link Pathway, it was always hoped to make it an Arts Trail. More and more “arty” things are appearing.
Besides two murals that were always in place, a few of the structures such as a couple of bridges, and a couple of seats have been given the artistic treatment by our construction team. However, it’s a real joy to see some spontaneous and organic craft starting to be added by users of the pathway. This is awesome!
There are faces and birds carved into punga trunks, pixie grottos and fairy doors at the base of large tees, and a soft toy owl and a caterpillar have appeared in hollow logs.
A lovely Waterfall Glow-worm Grotto on the Havelock side of the Mahakipawa Hill features a clever bench seat that appears to levitate, and a rock “ghat” that leads to the waterfall. Amazingly, water has also started flowing out of a tree. We are not sure if this really is holy water, but it is surely miraculous, and is definitely worth a pilgrimage to experience it.

Look out for these features as you walk or cycle the pathway….can you find them all?

Dynamic Arts Trail

More sculptures, murals, and creative seats are being planned, and the aim is to make the Link Pathway an Arts Trail that is dynamic, with additions happening continually for regular users to discover and enjoy.
