Current Status of the Link Pathway

24 July 2026

The pathway is now reopened throughout!

Our team have been busy restoring the various sections damaged in recent rain.
Some sections that were damaged remain muddy and narrow, but are able to be used with care. Work is on-going to improve these areas. There is a "gulch" at the head of Shakespeare Bay where the beach has scoured out. This can be walked / biked around, but it is not advised to go through the middle as it is quite deep. This will be filled and the pathway restored in a few days time.
Other than these damaged areas, the rest of the pathway is in fine shape.

Thank you to the supportive folk who have donated to help with the pathway restoration and maintenance. This is always hugely appreciated. If you are able to contribute: Givealittle Page. We really appreciate all the support!

Now that the construction of Te Ara Tuhono Link Pathway is complete, we are really enjoying developing Storyboards, Information Panels, Artwork and Lookout Sites.
This has been an eagerly awaited stage, but we have had to curb our enthusiasm until after all the actual pathway was constructed.

The lookout site over Havelock is typical of our intentions for similar sites throughout the length of the pathway.

We are pretty pleased with how the new footbridge between Aussie Bay and Momorangi is looking, see photo below.
It replaces a steep and narrow “goat track” that has been in place since the storm 3 years ago. In our now trademark style, we have built it with sweeping curves.
“We don’t do straights!”
